podmemo ("we," "us," or "our") operates the podmemo mobile application (the "Service"), an AI-powered podcast summary app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Account Information: Email address and password when you create an account.
• Nickname: Optional display name you may set in your profile.
• Subscription Preferences: Channels you subscribe to, episodes you save, and channels you hide from your feed.
• Questions: Questions you submit about episodes, which are sent to third-party AI providers to generate responses.
• Feedback and Suggestions: Messages you submit through the Contact Us form and channel recommendations through Discover search.
• Payment Information: Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store your payment card details. We receive your subscription status from Apple.

Information Collected Automatically

• Device Information: Device timezone (stored to deliver notifications at appropriate local times).
• Push Notification Token: If you enable notifications, your Firebase Cloud Messaging token is stored to deliver push notifications.
• Usage Data: Read/unread episode status, question count for billing purposes, and last seen timestamps.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including generating your personalized feed.
• Send your questions to third-party AI providers to generate responses.
• Deliver push notifications about new episodes in your feed, at appropriate times based on your timezone.
• Track question usage for billing purposes.
• Process feedback and channel recommendations you submit.
• Detect, prevent, and address technical issues.

We do not use your data to train any AI models. Under our API agreements with Google and OpenAI, your prompts and conversations are not used by those providers to train their foundational models.

We do not sell your personal information.

We do not serve ads or share your data with advertisers.

3. Third-Party Services

AI Model Providers

To generate episode summaries and responses to your questions, episode transcripts and your inputs are sent to:

• Google (Gemini) — policies.google.com/privacy
• OpenAI — openai.com/privacy

Your account information (email, nickname) is not shared with AI providers. Only episode transcript content and your questions are sent to generate responses.

YouTube Data API

We use the YouTube Data API to fetch channel and episode metadata (titles, thumbnails, publish dates). We do not access or store your YouTube account information. Our use of the YouTube API is subject to Google's Privacy Policy and YouTube's Terms of Service.

Apple App Store

Subscription billing is handled by Apple. Your payment information is managed entirely by Apple and is subject to Apple's privacy policy.

Firebase (Google Cloud)

We use Firebase for authentication, database (Firestore), and push notifications (Cloud Messaging). Data is stored on Google Cloud servers. Firebase's privacy information can be found at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored using Firebase (Google Cloud) infrastructure. We implement security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit, secure authentication via Firebase Auth, and Firestore security rules to restrict data access to authorized users.

While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

5. Data Retention

• Account Data: Retained as long as your account is active. Deleted when you delete your account.
• Subscriptions and Saved Episodes: Retained as long as your account is active.
• Read/Unread Status: Retained as long as your account is active.
• Question Conversations: Not persistently stored beyond the active session.
• Feedback and Suggestions: Retained for reference and product improvement purposes.
• Push Notification Tokens: Updated on each app launch; removed when you delete your account.

When you delete your account, we permanently delete all your data including your user document, subscribed channels, saved episodes, read history, and authentication account. This process is irreversible.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data through your account and the app.
• Delete your entire account and all associated data through the Settings page.
• Manage your subscriptions and saved episodes at any time.
• Control push notifications through your device's iOS Settings.

For Canadian Users (PIPEDA): Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, you have the right to access, correct, and request deletion of your personal information.

For European Users (GDPR): If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights including data portability, restriction of processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

For California Users (CCPA): We do not sell your personal information. You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a user under 13, we will delete that information and terminate the account.

8. Cookies and Tracking

The Service is a native iOS app and does not use browser cookies. We do not use advertising trackers or share your data with advertisers. We do not engage in cross-app tracking.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
